Fun in California

We woke to rain Monday morning. Not a good day to explore. We decided to head to one of the casino’s. The choice was made to head to Viejas in Alpine. It is pretty big and even has an outlet mall across the street. No luck for either of us, so the highlight of the trip was a free prime rib buffet. We had fun, and that’s what counts.

Tuesday we got a late start to our day. When we headed out,  the first stop was for lunch at Rubio’s. One of our friends Deb, is from SD and suggested we try it for fish taco’s. Yummy!! Thanks Deb.

Next we headed to Point Loma to see the  Cabrillo National Monument. This is a great place to get pictures of the bay, however it was rather hazy.

On the way out Kevin noticed the Veterans National Cemetary. He thought this would be a neat place for a final resting place, overlooking the ocean.

Today we had a date with old friends who live in Chula Vista..not far from here. We haven’t seen them in several years, so it was great to catch up. They guys went off golfing. Ginnie had a day planned for me sightseeing a bit. We started out at Pacific Beach having lunch…

I had lobster bisque, and it was delicious! Ginnie had lobster benedict and I had a bite, yum…

We sat looking at the ocean, which I love..  Luckily I had my small camera in my purse, however I was very disappointed that I hadn’t brought my big lense camera with me today. I had no idea what the day would bring….

One last stop across the bay at LaJolla Shores…

Of course between all these beach stops, we drove by the beautiful homes in LaJolla.

After many, many hours touring the area, we caught up with the guys and went out for burgers.

Marine Base/Chilling Out

We decided we needed to check out Camp Pendleton.

It was a neat drive. Many of the spring wild flowers popping up everywhere…

Kevin was stationed there before deploying for Viet Nam, many, many years ago. He doesn’t remember any of it, lol.. It is a very large base. We were told it it the size of Rhode Island..

We headed to the Famcamp (campground)  to check it out. We will be staying there for a week when we leave here…. Because I was so late making the reservation, we won’t get one of the sites, right on the beach. Only the back row was left. Thats okay though, at least I will be near the ocean…

After driving around we headed to the commisary to do our shopping.  We lucked out and found diesel for $3.87…. yes that is good for California.  Prices we saw earlier, were in the $4.69 range, yikes..

Saturday we just chilled out. It was an absolutely beautiful day. Sunny, around 85. I did some laundry, took several walks and sat out and read.  I finished up with some upcoming reservations. We are pretty well booked up until Sept, all but a few weeks that is. 

Today our plan is to hang out again, with another gorgeous day. If weather permits, we will start exploring San Diego tomorrow….

Jamul, California

Our travel from Yuma to Jamul was a very scenic one…

We had to go through an agriculture checkpoint…

And two different Border Patrol checkpoints..

We saw lots of sand…

And as we climbed in elevation..

We even saw snow..

On the roadside…

And on the mountains…

  Beautiful scenery…

Until we reached…

Pio Pico is a Thousand Trails park, that will be our home for the next two weeks...

Goodbye Arizona

Not sure where the last week and a half went. Poof, its gone

Not even sure I can remember what we have done. I know Karen, Lynette and I had pedicures one day.   We had a girls day out. Molly, Karen, Lynette and I started with a great lunch at Mimi’s Cafe,  complete with Cosmopolitans!  Then we went on a shopping spree.  The best part of the day was just spending time with these friends..  I will miss them.  While we were off doing this, the guys headed to the casino. Don’t think there were any big winners.

Other nights we played cards, went out for Chinese and Mexican food, and last Friday night, we had breakfast for dinner…..yumm.. There were more trips to the casino. I actually won a wee bit!  Karen and I spent some more time holding down the chairs on the patio. I will definately miss that.  Very relaxing..

Karen & Donnie pulled out yesterday morning.  After saying our goodbyes we spent the day cleaning up and packing up.  Lynette and Greg had us over for a farewell dinner. It is so hard saying goodbye, since we won’t hook up again until August.  What great friends we have.  We will miss you all…..

It has been such a wonderful two months. We will definately be back.

This morning we headed out around 9am. California here we come.. Stay tuned for more!
