Moving Up The Coast

Yesterday it was time to move. With Thousand Trails we have the membership that is two weeks in, then one week out. Our move was to Beverly Beach Sate Park in Newport, and just about 10 miles up the coast. The Oregon State Parks are very kind to the disabled  veteran, they offer ten nights a month free stay. We can only get five nights at a time, but you just can’t beat that. Oregon in fact is very proud of veterans, as was very evident when we first crossed into the state. We saw several signs saying We Support Veterans..  So we are now staying five nights free and paid for two nights. The park is very nice but loaded with trees, which means we can’t get our satellite to work. We have tried but it was a no go.. We do pick up a few local channels but that doesn’t quite cut it during the hockey playoff season in this house! So the plan for tonight is to head down the road to a local joint that is showing our Boston Bruins game.

When we woke, the sun was shining again,  two in a row..  We wanted to get out while the going was good.   We headed to see the  Devil’s Punch Bowl….

When we left this area we headed to Depoe Bay and I will post pictures tomorrow of that neat place where the water was ferocious!

Beach and Museum

Saturday was a dark cloudy day. We had one of those really lazy days. In fact, I never got dressed.  Love them once in awhile..

Sunday..Today’s forecast was for rain, but the sun was out!  We had to take advantage of the weather so headed back to the beach. We didn’t bring our diggers with us but figured we would just be on the lookout for some Agate rocks.

   Lots of these yellow bushes. Reminded me of forsythia that we had in Ma…..always a first sign of Spring… 

It was getting chilly and very cloudy and I think we left just in time..When we reached the truck it was starting to rain.

We headed into town for a few errands and a stop at the fish market to pick up  steamed clams. We are used to the New England clams, so not too sure if we would like these, they are much smaller.  Back at home we cooked them up along with corn on the cob and french bread. 

They were yummy!  Kevin doesn’t think as good as New England ones though!!

Monday morning, although cloudy with light rain we decided it was a good day to head to

    

We saw lots of neat exhibits .  They had hands on with some living creatures.  Our grandkids would love it here!!

Sun and Rocks

We have had two nice sunny days in a row.. The big thing to do around here is to look for rocks, Agate rocks to be exact.  This area has some of the finest areas in the world to search for Agate’s (pronounced Agit)  These rocks are often used in making jewelry. Now, we have always scoured the beaches for sea shells but never rocks, so this was a first for us.  Yesterday we both headed out.

Of course we really didn’t know what to look for, so we came back with a few interesting ones but nothing that looked like at Agate. Our neighbor showed me hers and told me exactly where to go. So, today after spending my morning cleaning our home, I headed out alone, this time.  With small shovel and bag in hand, I searched.. I actually sat myself down and started digging. I found alot of interesting rocks, most small but not too sure I have the Agate’s. Perhaps a few small ones.

They are suppose to be translucent when holding them up to the sun. This is the closest I came..so at least, I’ll pretend I have some.

It was fun and a great way to spend a beautiful day. Our oldest grandson collects rocks, so I’m sure he will love getting some of these.   I have a whole bucket full so am displaying just a few..

The forecast for the next week, is not sounding very good. There seems to be rain coming our way AGAIN…

My Mother’s Day

When I got up this morning, Kevin had the table set and was ready to cook me a nice breakfast  Good job.. When I put the blinds up, woohoo, I actually saw the sun!  I did my computer stuff and then headed up to take a shower and get dressed. By the time I had finished, it was pouring out again, ugh!  We waited for it to slow down and headed out to Newport. Shortly after leaving, the sun was out again.. We stopped at the Yaquina Bay Lighthouse. There are two in town and this is the first and oldest.

We headed north to find Oregon’s tallest lighthouse,  Yaquina  Head Lighthouse..

Then it was time for lunch….

MMMM….We each got chowder and split fried halibut & chips and a crab sandwich… We will go back another day to buy some crabs and steamers.

I really enjoyed my Mother’s Day.  Talked to both my kids and several of my grandkids,  took in some beautiful sites, chowed down on fabulous food and the sun was out! !
