What’s Been Happening in the Desert

This is the start of our last week here.. The time is flying by.  Seems like we just arrived.

Since my last post, I have been back to Mexico for four crowns. So far, very happy with the work done. I had all four done , cheaper than I had one done in Texas five years ago…I need alot more work and hope they will hold out until I can return to this area again.

We went back to DuBoys for a fabulous dinner..Arizona 2011 008

Thanks John and Brenda. We appreciate that you drove those several hours to visit with us. Or was it for the poppers???

We have spent many nights playing cards. Just too busy concentrating, to take pictures.. Saturday night we played Texas Hold em. It was a first for me.. Guess it showed because, I was the big loser.  Other nights it was Chase the Ace or Hand & Foot.  What great times.. We will miss this, when we leave.

We finish our evenings  here in the desert with these beautiful sunsets..

Jello Plans

Well, as we often say in this lifestyle, our plans are made in jello. Our trip to Houston, was not to happen. Just as we were heading out the door early Thursday morning, we got a call that Houston airport was going to close around 3:30pm. Well, our flight out of San Diego was not due to arrive in Houston until 4;30pm. So after a call, it was confirmed our flight was cancelled. Since we fly standby, we know our chances of getting out in the next few days were zilch!  Kevin will not get to see his dentist, after waiting 6 months for the appointment. Guess he will be headed over to Mexico along with me for dental work.

We are upset not to spend some time with the kids and grandkids, but we will have to arrange another visit. We have lots to do here. Kevin and I headed back to the casino and had a nice breakfast and deposited a small amount.   We played cards both Thursday and Friday night with our friends and had lots of good food and alot of laughs.. I headed to the flea market with Mac & Netters and Donnie & Karen, while Kevin was off doing his thing, waxing!

One task I had hoped to get accomplished while back in Texas, was a much needed appointment to have my hair done. So that was on the agenda for Saturday. I had an afternoon appointment with a local salon. She did a pretty good job. I feel so much better now.

Today we are preparing for our Super Bowl Party.. It also happens to be my birthday.  Kevin surprised me with my favorite flowers. Yellow Roses!!  And also the most awesome birthday card about being on the road.  I now get to use my collapsible vase.. A little small for these flowers, but will do.. It is cool though and takes up no space and will not break.. Lynette, Karen and I, picked them up at a flea market.

This Weeks Happenings

Last Sunday, we had our gathering at Mac & Netters place. Donna & Keith had arrived back in town Saturday night and they are parked next to them. Bob & Molly got into town on Sunday. Ginger & Jesse also joined us. Mac grilled sausage, brats and dogs and we all brought sides. Yummy, once again.

Monday, Kevin was busy cleaning a few vehicles, while I went and did some food shopping. Monday night, Keith & Donna, Karen & Donnie, and Kevin & I played Hand & Foot over here in our “clubhouse”.. We had fun, even though the guys pulled out the win…

Early Tuesday morning Kevin & I headed over to Mexico for me to get set up with a dentist. I found the place I had been referred to by Kevin’s dr here in Yuma, but his prices were way too high for me.  So we went in search of an office that a girl in Texas had recommended. Found it, and have an appointment next Wed morning to have four crowns put on. I hope it works out okay. The price sure was right.

After we left Mexico, we stopped at the casino. How could we drive right past it and not stop, lol… They have a promo going on right now.. Anyone over “50” gets $10 free play on Tues & Wed. Also veterans, get an additional $10 free play Mon-Thurs, so Kevin gets $20…. It was so crowded though. We both lost some.

Today I got caught up on laundry and got our suitcases out for a weekend trip back to Houston, we will be taking tomorrow.  Kevin has an appointment at the VA Dental office in Houston on Friday,  that he has waited about 6 months for. We figured we better keep it, since he has been having problems.  I have been keeping a close watch on flights due to all the storms, as we fly standby… We will drive to San Diego and take an 11:30 flight out, hopefully..

Around noon, we drove back to the casino to try our luck once again with our free play. We first had some lunch at the buffet, for $6.99. Wasn’t lucky on the slots, but we both had some luck playing blackjack.. It was once again, packed there. We did bump into Donna & Keith and Donnie & Karen.  Got home late afternoon.

It is chilly here in Arizona today, but not nearly as bad as folks in the rest of the country have it. Our family’s back home in New England are in a whiteout. They have just about had enough of that stuff!   We know we will be hitting some cooler temps back in Houston also. Just hoping things warm up a bit, as we will be in the midst of a very large super bowl party, on Sunday, at our daughter’s house.  I have always been a Packers fan, so since our Patriots won’t be there, that is who I will be cheering for….

GO PAC!!!!!
