Well 60 Isn’t All That Bad

I was lucky enough to spend my 60th DSC_0310[2]birthday on Saturday with good friends.  We had planned a river cruise on the Rio Grande and it turned out to be a beautiful day…

It was a two hour cruise and we saw lots of action along the way.. The cruise takes you along the Mexican border and we could see Border Control busy at something.

Here you see the paths that have taken some of the illegals out to the river, where they cross when they have the chance.

When the cruise ended we headed into the restaurant for lunch.

When lunch ended we headed back to our place to have cake and ice cream.. Kevin forgot to get candles so he improvised with matches.

Poof, there was quite a flame, but I managed to get my wish in, before we started a fire!

More Fun With Friends

Thursday was a lazy morning. I did manage by afternoon to gather the laundry and head to the laundry room. I do not like this task.. While the clothes were in the dryer I headed over to visit with Lynette and Greg aka Netters and Mac.. We had plans for the evening and they sounded good. The guys drove over to Pharr to pick up tickets for the Taste of the Valley. Alot of restaurants gathered to let us sample their food. For $10 you get to eat all you want.. lol.. We headed out to be there for the 6pm opening. Wow, the line was around the whole building. This did not look good.  And it wasn’t… It was absolute craziness once  in there. Too many people for a small space and not organized at all. After tasting just a few goodies, we all decided we had it and headed to Rudy’s for barbecue.  Food was good and had a good time once again with friends.

Today is a beautiful day. Sun is shining and it is warm. I headed to the 1pm water aerobics at the pool. There were about 10 of us and it was very refreshing. I thought Donna would be there, but she was a no show.

About 4pm we headed over to Donna and Nolan’s for a barbecue.  It was yummy..  We followed up with ladder golf. This was a first for us and we had alot of laughs.

Tomorrow is sounding like another fun filled day as we all gather for a river cruise and lunch.

We Have Arrived

In Mission, Tx that is!   Yes the fun and the eating has begun.  Why is it, when we get together with friends it always means food.. We arrived Monday and Lynette and Greg had planned a Happy Hour at their place with a group effort appetizer buffet. Yum.  We shared a great time with Donna and Nolan, Deb and Rod, Dortha and Mark and of course our hosts Lynette and Greg. My camera battery was dead so no pics of the fun night..

Tuesday we all left to head to Gonzales for burgers. I have read about this place for quite some time from RVers in the Valley for the winter. This was a must on my list and it sure fit the bill.  The burgers are big, juicy and wonderful.Winter in Tx 2010 004

After the great meal we headed for a few shops for the girls to browse while the guys waited in the truck.. I was reminded that we were in Hobby Lobby for over an hour, lol…

It rained all night and we woke to off and on rain for the day. Kevin and I needed to grocery shop and we brought along our tour guides Lynette and Greg for this task.  We headed to HEB, loaded up with our food and then headed back to the RV park long enough to make plans to meet up with Deb, Rod, Dortha and Mark at a Mexican restaurant for an early dinner. Kevin opted out of this one. His back was really bothering him and he isn’t all that interested in Mexican food anyway.. It was a good meal but not one of my favorites.

One thing I must say about this eating with friends is, we seem to only eat one meal a day..  That is a good thing.  But seems we are always planning the next meal.. Tomorrow is already in the planning stage, Saturday is lunch and a cruise and Sunday of course the Super Bowl.  They are forecasting nice sunny days ahead but only time will tell.

A Busy Week

We finished our week up at Ft Desoto with pretty nice weather. I had my girlfriends over for lunch one day and then on Sunday, our last day we had several friends over to enjoy their company before leaving.  We had a great time..

Florida 2010 026

We had noticed a  leak  under our fiver on two separate occasions the last few time we pulled out of a campground. I spoke with Heartland and they referred me to a dealer outside of Tampa. They were good enough to squeeze us in on Monday, the day we were leaving Ft. Desoto.  They did however say we would have to leave it for several days. We have a timeshare in Orlando, which was our destination, so we cancelled our campground reservations and went ahead and reserved the timeshare.  We were meeting up with our daughter Kim and her family for a Disney vacation.  They were staying at the Beach Club on disney property.  All went as planned and we are on day two. Today was our oldest grandson’s 8th birthday.

                HAPPY BIRTHDAY JOEY

We had planned on Animal Kingdom for today but he was sick all night and we thought walking around the park wouldn’t be the best thing for him today so we hung around the pool and then had reservations for

T-REX for dinner.  What an awesome place. Florida 2010 011

It is loaded with all kinds of dinosaurs with all the noises.  It was a bit much for the 2 year old though so we didn’t quite get to stay for dinner. After drinks we had to leave. It was okay with Joey because he still got to explore and see everything inside.  After grabbing dinner somewhere else we headed to Beaches and Cream for a little ice cream to celebrate the birthday!Florida 2010 016

The Kitchen Sink……It had 5 different kinds of ice cream and all the toppings.. It fed the seven of us just fine..Florida 2010 019

MMMMMM

Turned out to be another great day with the grandkids!

We talked with the RV dealer and they can’t find the leak. They have filled the pump and run everything and they just can’t find anything.  They are also waiting on a part for the pilot starter for the stove.  Sooo, we don’t know where all the water came from and the underbelly definately had a bulge from the holding water. Guess this is just part of the RV lifestyle.

We have hopes of leaving on Friday although we do have the timeshare until Saturday. We shall see!!  We have quite a drive ahead of us, as we have reservations for Mission, Tx ,to meet up with friends that are just having way too much fun for us to be missing out on….

Ah, This Is What It’s All About

Yes, this is it.. this is what I have read about in the other blogs.. The time to finally relax and enjoy the view!  We arrived at Ft. Desoto Park in St. Petersburg around noon. We have had these reservations for 6 months. We were here in July and I made them at that time. The water front sites go really quick. It is so beautiful.

Time Goes Marching On

I feel like we have been on a treadmill.  We just haven’t stopped and relaxed much since we got here to Florida.  The main reason for our return here is to put our house on the market. We have rented it out for the last 5 years and oh my, I don’t think our tenant has cleaned it in those 5 years!  Well, now that we have that accomplished and a few things taken care of, it is officially on the market. We will lose our shirt but we just want to be relieved of home ownership.  It will be nice to be on the road with no worries about it.  Lets hope for a quick sale!

In our free time, we have spent time with friends, met up with rv-dreamers, walked our feet off at the Tampa RV Show and volunteered at the show.  It has been really nice connecting again.

Here are a few photos taken while out to dinner with Howard and Linda and some of our dreamer friends.

Tomorrow we will move for the third time since arriving here. We spent the first two weeks at MacDill AFB and then moved here to Spanish Main Resort for the last week. Tomorrow we head to Ft. Desoto, a county park in St. Petersburg. We really like it there, will have a water front site  and hope for some nice weather and maybe some down time.  Next week we will head to Orlando and meet up with our daughter and her family to celebrate our oldest grandsons 8th birthday..

The Start of a New Year

First let me start off by wishing our daughter a Very Happy Birthday. Kim is the oldest of our two children and our only girl and turning 37 today!!

                          HAPPY BIRTHDAY KIM

We left Texas last Sunday morning. Our drive to Florida was uneventful with stops in Bay St Louis, Mo and Tallahassee, Fl. We are now settled in at MacDill AFB in Tampa for two weeks, with hopes of staying here a third. They will only take our reservation for two weeks at a time, so on the last day, we will have to go to the office when they open, take a number and hope we get a site. It is very busy here with all 350 sites full.

There is a beach in the campground just a short walk down the road.

There is also a restaurant on the beach

The day we arrived the weather was just beautiful. I was in flip flops and shorts and took a stroll on the beach. Since then we have had cool weather. The forecast sounds cool for the next 7 days.  I did walk down there today and it wasn’t bad.  The sun is shining and it felt really good. Hopefully we will get to enjoy this nice area. Our plans are to put our house up for sale in St.  Petersburg. We plan on talking to an agent sometime in the next week.

Just want to share a picture of our Texas Grandsons on Christmas Eve.           Joey, Brady, and Logan
