Relaxing in the Desert and Lunch

We have had some really relaxing days here doing nothing. Well almost, nothing.. Karen and I prefer to say we are holding down the chairs on the patio. Once you sit, something comes over us and well, we just plain relax….

Tuesday, Karen knocked on the door and asked if we would like to take a ride to see Glen and Sylvia Avery. They were parked at the Escapees Park, here in Yuma.  So off we went, found the park but not the Avery’s.. They were out…

On Wednesday, Phyllis organized a lunch at Burgers and Beer. We all met there at 1pm.

It was great getting together. Thanks Phyllis, for arranging this..

Thursday I drove with Mac and Netters to the flea market. We took our time strolling around…  Kevin spent the day cleaning Keith and Donna’s rig. They had asked him to clean off all that desert dust.. Anyone that knows Kevin, knows that he likes to be out early morning, shining something up!  The Green’s  had to fly back home to be with Keith’s mother for her last hours. Our hearts go out to them on their loss. We look forward to having you back with us over the weekend.

Nothing in the works today, I don’t think.. I am working on maps and parks and trying to figure out where and when we will head to, when we leave Arizona in March…

Mexico and Friends

Last Friday was our planned trip to Mexico. We had plans to meet up with Ginger & Jesse, who were also in Yuma. Mac & Netters stopped along the way to have them follow us across the California line and then into Algodones, Mexico.   We parked and walked easily into the busy streets, lined with vendors, dentists, optical and drug stores. I had lined up an appointment to have my free eye exam. I have never worn prescription glasses and I know it’s time. Karen and Lynette accompanied me. I had asked Lynette to come along, because I know nothing about script glasses and she does from working in an opthomologist office. Once the exam was over and I was quoted a price, she asked lots of questions and the decision was made to leave without a purchase. She didn’t think the quality of lenses that they use was good enough.  We headed to meet up with everyone else and we all headed for drinks and lunch in the outside cafe area.  After eating and drinking, we shopped a bit. Lynette and I picked out some pretty glass inserts for our RV door windows.

This is the one we purchased and inserted…

Kevin and I looked around for a dentist office that we were referred to and never did find, purchased some EVOO and some booze and then headed to the exit. We waited 40 minutes in line to go through immigration.  Heading back home we stopped at a casino. Everyone came out a winner but me!

We spent a fairly quiet weekend, the highlight being football Sunday, even though our Patriots got kicked out last week.  We both like Green Bay and were cheering them on.

Monday, we were having a happy hour here at our place. We had invited Jesse and Ginger, and had just found out that Jo and Fred Wishnie were in the area, so asked them to join  us.  It was neat to see these folks again. We got caught up on where everyone has been and where everyone is heading.  All couples  brought yummy food to share and Mac cooked up fajita’s. Yummm…  When the sun went down and it cooled off, we retreated to our clubhouse, the garage!

Having Fun and a Day Trip to Q

We have been having a wonderful time here in the desert. Who would of thought that I would say that. Not me!

Our weather has been perfect most days with temps ranging from 70’s –80’s. We have kept busy sunning, playing cards, gambling, shopping and of course eating…..

Last night we had dinner at Mac and Netters. Mac smoked up some ribs and boy oh boy, were they delicious.  We got to meet Angela from our chat room and her husband Don, from BC.  Phyllis and Bob who have been sick for a few weeks also joined us. It was a fun time.

Today we headed to Quartzite for a day trip, to meet up with a bunch of Escapees for a Happy Hour.  This was a first for us to Q, and I must say I was impressed.  Soooooo many vendors around town. The big tent is set up but is not open until Saturday. I guess that is a good thing since we really don’t need anything else.  The best part was seeing friends again.

and..

Both of these, were places I have waited quite awhile to visit.

We just spent one night in Tucson. The plans had been to spend a few, and see the area, but weather reports of high winds and SNOW, changed our plans. We were out of there….and headed to YUMA!!

Now, my expectations of Arizona were not very high.. I am basically a water kind of girl. I love the ocean and lakes. Perhaps because I am an aquarius..  Well I must admit, I was very surprised when we arrived. The area is nothing like I expected. Both Kevin & I really like it! We were greated by Mac & Netters, who escorted us to our site. We had reserved a site for January and February on a private lot. We got backed in and hooked up. Very nice.  Friends Donnie & Karen have rented the  lot next to us. They arrived two days later. Mac & Netters are 2.5 miles away in another private lot. Phyllis & Bob, chat room friends are close to them.

Here is our site..DSC_0200

This is our very large patio..

And our very own activity room (use of the clean garage, with large tables) heated and air conditioned!

We feel very fortunate to have this space. We start gathering outside on the patio and when the sun goes down, we head into the garage for good eats and cards..

Thanks Phyllis, for finding this place for us!!  We love it..

Merry Christmas To All

It has been so very busy here at the homestead. The kids are very excited and hyped up waiting for Christmas.  We  have been busy spending time with them. There has been the usual shopping, wrapping, decorating  and baking. I even had time for a girls night out at a friends home for dinner and lunch with another friend.  Kevin and I are also trying to get things sorted and packed up for travel on Monday. We will then start our trek towards Yuma, Az…

I leave you with Very Merry Wishes for a Wonderful Christmas.

Texas for the Holidays

We got an early start heading out of Florida two days before Thanksgiving. Our plan was to stop for the night somewhere along the route and be back home in Texas on Wednesday. Well, the day went like this..we drove to Bay St Louis, Ms for a little stop at the Hollywood Casino. We deposited some money rather quickly and then had some lunch. Back on the road, we heard from Donna and Nolan and they were travelling and were stopping the night just over the Texas line. We gave it some thought but Kevin was feeling good and wanted to drive the extra 200 miles to get home to the grandkids. They were so excited for us to be coming back. The day was very long (12 hours) but we made it back safe and sound. We were greeted outside by the three boys, so it was worth it .

Snapped this driving through La…

We are parked in our daughters back yard. We put in a 30amp outlet and purchased a macerator pump for the sewer. So we are very comfortable.

We had a nice quiet Thanksgiving. Everyone has coughs and colds here, and our daughter wasn’t feeling very well but we did manage to enjoy our feast.

I have put up the Christmas decorations, done my Christmas shopping on the internet (almost finished),and  cleared out alot of clothes that we haven’t worn. Our closet rod broke from all the weight of the clothes that were travelling with us. Our son in law fixed that, and now I will be more careful of what I hang in there.

Last Saturday night we had dinner several miles down the road, with Sandy and John, rving friends that were in the area for a week. We were with them in Tn in October and it was so great to see them again.

Kevin has golfed three times this week. He may be ready to give up the game! You know what that means, lol.. He has lost his game….

We will be getting our dr appointments taken care of in the next few weeks. I had a mammogram today. One thing out of the way. Hopefully we will both check out okay, so we can be back on the road right after Christmas.

Yesterday we celebrated Kevin’s 62nd birthday..

Back to Texas 013

Our granddaughter in Illinois was also celebrating her 5th birthday. Happy Birthday Kailyn!! Sorry we can’t be with you..

The kids have taken turns sleeping over. Tonight we will build a campfire, hook up a movie outside and toast s’mores..

Guess that about sums it up for now…..

Our Last Week In Florida

Wow, this week has flown by. We didn’t do an awful lot except enjoy it here.  I did some Christmas shopping, a little at least. Thursday we headed over to Pensacola to do some shopping at the NAS commissary. Oh my gosh, it was packed… I had a list but didn’t get everything on it because if you missed it while going down your isle, there was no going back.  Don’t think I’ve ever been in a grocery store this crowded.  Anyway I think I got what I needed for Thanksgiving.

After shopping we made our way to Pensacola Beach. We drove down to Ft Pickens Campground. They have really done alot of work since we were here in May, but they are still working at bringing it back to where they were before they got hit with a hurricane several years ago.

We stopped for a last walk on the beautiful beaches.

We just had to head to Crabs on the beach..We sat outside here looking over the beach and listening to some good music.

I finally got to have my She Crab Soup. They have happy hour wings and shrimp for .35….Yummy!!  Oh and wine was 2 for 1!!

They are still working on the beach, overturning the sand and scooping any remnants of oil.

We finally took our 1.5 hr drive back to Santa Rosa Beach….with full tummy’s…

Yesterday we were back on duty at the store. The park is not very full and we are not busy at all. Luckily it is just a 6 hour shift.

Today we were a bit busier. It was an absolutely beautiful day and people were out and about. Sold lots of ice cream…

So tomorrow will be our last day working. I think Kevin will stay back and start packing up, checking air pressure and so on.. We will leave early Tuesday morning for our trip back to Texas. It will be hard leaving here but we are sure looking forward to seeing 3 of our grandsons….
